Apple Bans Manhattan Declaration App

I was too preoccupied to notice this over the weekend. But Apple has removed the Manhattan Declaration app from its online store. They did so quietly, with little to no explanation. And Apple has been asked to reconsider.

I am a long time and usually happy Apple customer. In fact, I had a very pleasant experience returning a keyboard obsessed with the number 2 at an Apple Store on Black Friday of all days. It was very easy and hassle-free. And the store had almost as many assistants as customers. I was impressed. And, like it or not, Apple has the right to determine what will be in their stores.

But this decision reveals Apple management to be too much a part of that Left Coast bubble that considers orthodox Christians of traditional morality to be racistbigotnazihomophobes and just cannot understand why any reasonable enlightened person would think otherwise. I’ve followed the Manhattan Declaration and have signed it. There is nothing hateful about it.

I’ll go further. Ban the Manhattan Declaration, and you are banning me.

Apple may be hearing from me shortly.

I, too, have been a happy Apple user for many years...until they did away with the "Classic Environment", that is. I have too many old apps that I still need to use, but Classic doesn't work with any Mac OS greater than 10.3.9. When the computer I use gives up the ghost (God willing, that's a long way off), I will probably become computer-free.

It was only a matter of time until the company showed its true self, though. All you had to do was look at Steve Jobs.

I agree, the Manhattan Declaration is completely inoffensive. Apple is wrong.

If Apple is going to do away with anything that offends any persons or group with loud angry voices, they will have to ban the (really helpful) Bible apps that surely offend Moslems and Militant Atheists and homosexuals. Then of course anything to do with war, development, business, meat, alcohol, guns, religion, left or right wing politics, children, photos of abortion, opposition to abortion, support of abortion, any kind of sex, women, men, humor, gambling, games, dancing, fashion, food, peanuts, dogs, cats, etc.

Eventually, they will have to ban all their apps...except a spell check.

I disagree with all of you. God created me as a gay person with the same love he created all of us. My Christian faith does not include bigotry. I support Apple, and take this time to remind you all of Christ's command to love one another and also not to judge.

So, Mr. Gay Anonymous, you support Apple in banning those of traditional morality, whom you apparently think guilty of "bigotry."

Who is being the bigot? Who is judging?

God created you with a brain, too. Use it.

Floridian, I find the implication that my spelling is ever "wrong" and needs to be checked to be offensive.

I must warn that I will ban you, in Christian love, of course, if you display such bigotry in the future.

Thou shalt not judge (my spelling).
