BREAKING: McCain insults Supreme Court on Citizens United UPDATED

I’m sure glad I had CNBC on just now. Without being asked about the Citizens United ruling, Sen. John McCain volunteered that the said ruling is “the most disgraceful decision of the United States Supreme Court in my memory out of naiveté and ignorance and stupidity.”

So Roe v. Wade is not a worse ruling? So he insults the Supreme Court because it cares more about defending free speech than he?

I am floored by this statement. It will be interesting to see if there is any fall out from this.

----

MORE: I’ve sniffed around and found this is not the first time McCain has called the Supreme Court ignorant and naïve in its Citizens United ruling.

Further he has said, "I predict to you there will be a major scandal associated with the Supreme Court decision on Citizens versus (sic) United. There is too much money washing around."

Wow.

I’ve yet to hear of a public figure calling him out on these statements.

And Now, Show Trials? UPDATED

Obama is letting more and more of his despicable totalitarian impulses show. Now he has opened the door to prosecution of those who approved waterboarding and other high pressure interrogation tactics against terrorism. The Wall Street Journal this morning has rightly dubbed Obama’s invitation as presidential poison. Legitimate disagreement over national defense policies, including difficult ethical decisions, is one thing. Criminalizing those disagreements is the noxious stuff of totalitarianism.

The people upon which Obama has declared open season were striving to do their jobs in protecting America from further terrorist attacks. And they succeeded, with the interrogation tactics playing an important role in that success.

(And, yes, I do think waterboarding terrorists was justified and ethical. Thousands of civilian lives were at stake. And terrorists, by targeting civilians, forfeit normal protections, such as the Geneva Convention.)

And now, a lightweight with messianic pretensions who can’t bring himself to stop campaigning and blaming all the world’s problems on his predecessors has opened the door to rewarding that service with show trials. It is disgusting and more worthy of the old Soviet Union and of third world dictatorships than of the United States of America.

What goes around comes around. Obama had best backtrack and fast. Or his poison will spread as the WSJ warns and backfire.

And show trials have a history of not going as planned in this country. Remember Oliver North?

----

UPDATE: Sen. John McCain, who has strenuously opposed enhanced interrogation techniques, warns against “witch hunts” worthy of “banana republics” that “prosecute people for actions they didn’t agree with under previous administrations.”

John McCain Was Right on Cox and the SEC.

John McCain took some flak when he called for the firing of the head of the SEC, Christopher Cox. But sadly events have proved him right.

Since McCain’s call for Cox’s firing. Cox has allowed the short sale ban on financial stocks to lift. Now that needed to be done eventually.

But it was lifted yesterday morning. Notice what the markets have done since then? Notice the obvious short raid on Morgan Stanley?

If that raid succeeds, God help us. God help us all.

McCain Blinks on Debate.

CNBC reported just now that McCain has decided to debate tonight.

I’m disappointed.

McCain is Doing the Right Thing on Campaign Suspension (And Obama Isn’t).

I heartily agree with John McCain’s decision to suspend his campaign and seek to delay Friday’s debate in order to focus on getting a good financial asset relief plan passed. He is still a Senator, and the best way he can demonstrate leadership is to focus on his Senate duties while by far the most important matter of this Congress is up in the air.

Obama is also a Senator, but he opposes delaying the debate and wants to go on with his perpetual campaign. I think that speaks volumes as to who is a man of substance and who is not.

Frankly, if the debate goes on Friday, I hope McCain refuses to show up.

By the way, McCain tried to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago. Obama? Well, he did take a lot of donations from those two agencies.

Has Obama Just Blown the Senior Vote?

When I saw this Obama ad . . .

. . . I thought that will annoy a lot of seniors. I thought a lot of them would say, “Well, I’m a little behind the times and not a computer whiz either.” and take the ad as a cut down of them, too.

Well, it turns out that it’s worse than that. There’s a reason John McCain is not a whiz with a keyboard. His POW injuries can make typing painful for him.

Of course, the “Mainstream” News Media is giving Obama a pass on this. But word is still getting out. It’s certainly all over the internet. And I think even those old, behind the times, supposedly computer-illiterate seniors will find out and be . . . ticked.

So I got some news for Obama:

Some seniors aren’t computer whizzes. But they do know how to do one thing –

Vote.

Get used to remaining a Senator, Obama.

You might want to hold off on planning that Obama victory party.

So much happened over the weekend, I hardly know where to start. But this got my attention. The Liberal “Mainstream” News Media seems to be in such a hurry to coronate Obama. But look at this .

Newsweek’s polls are reliably skewed to the left. So for their poll to have Obama’s lead going from 15 points to virtually nothing in a month is notable. I suspected once people took a reality check about Obama, his support would wane. It looks like that may be happening even faster than I anticipated.

McCain Campaign Gets Some Discipline

Last month, I posted that the McCain campaign must put a stop to their stupidity.

It appears they may have just taken an important step to do so.

McCain Campaign Must Get Over the Stupids

I’m getting more than a little concerned about the McCain campaign. A stupid campaign will not beat Barack Obama. And lately a stupid campaign is what we’ve been getting.

The most publicized case of stupid is consultant Charlie Black’s comment that McCain would benefit from a terror attack.

I remember Charlie Black back in my North Carolina political days in 1984. Even back then, he seemed a restrained, even taciturn man. So for him to say something that stupid floors me. I wonder what got over him.

A less publicized instance of stupid is the campaign’s cancellation of a fundraiser at Clayton Williams’ home because of ill-advised remarks of Williams during his 1990 campaign for Governor of Texas against Ann Richards.

These remarks are a famous part of Texas political lore. Only a little homework would have revealed them to the campaign before they decided to schedule the fundraiser. But to schedule it, then call it off over those remarks of 18 years ago is stupid. Williams is a beloved figure to many in Texas. He’s seen as a little loose with his words and as having blown the 1990 campaign because of it. But he’s also perceived with affection as basically a fun, nice guy and a prototypical Texan. Snubbing him ticked off a lot of Texans whom it is best not to tick off.

Every campaign has its stupid moments. But many a campaign has also been sunk by stupidity. McCain’s campaign had best stop the stupid . . . now.

MORE: After I posted, I remembered get-out-the-vote phone calls I got from the McCain campaign before the Texas primary. I got several calls from them in which their computer didn’t answer until I said “Hello” about three times.

As I’ve already told them, that’s not the way to win hearts and votes. They need to get their act together.
