Canada Will Walk Out of Ahmadinejad’s UN Speech (UPDATED)

Canada’s delegation to the UN General Assembly will walk out on Iran’s Holocaust-denying puppet president Ahmadinejad today.

Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon will be at the world body to attend the opening of the UN General Assembly's annual debate, but officials signal he and other members of the Canadian delegation will vacate the Canadian seats when the Islamic republic's President approaches the podium.

Walking out of the chamber is seen as a strong diplomatic show of disgust at the UN -- and since the chamber is generally packed on the first day of the annual summit, Canada's empty seats will not go unnoticed. . . .

"President Ahmadinejad's repeated denial of the Holocaust and his anti-Israel comments run counter to the values of the UN General Assembly, and they're shameful," said one Canadian official.

Good on them! If only Obama and his U. S. delegation were that principled.


UPDATE: It turns out the delegations of eleven nations walked out -- Argentina, Australia, the UK, Costa Rica, Denmark, France(!), Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand … and, yes, the United States. Good on them.

Remind me not to get sick in Canada.

Now tell me again why we should increase government control over healthcare.

Victoria An Anglican Hotbed

I haven’t noticed before, but the news of St. Matthias Anglican of Victoria, B. C. joining the Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) brings to my attention that Victoria is something of a hotbed of orthodox Anglicanism.

In addition to three ANiC parishes, Vancouver Island (not be confused with Vancouver the city which is on the mainland. Victoria is the chief city on the island.) also has a prominent REC parish, the Church of Our Lord, which hosted the REC General Counsel last year in Victoria.

And from attending that meeting, I know first hand that Victoria is a nice place to visit as well.

The primate of the Canadian Church, the Most Rev Fred Hiltz, has asked the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, to host a face-to-face meeting with the Primate of the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone, the Most Rev Gregory Venables, Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori and Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil Archbishop, the Most Rev Mauricio de Andrade.

Hmm, that sounds like a nice 4-on-1 meeting. “Me and my friends want to meet you and *talk* behind the dumpsters after school. Please do come.”

Archbishop Venables is slightly hesitant to attend. Does anyone blame him?

The Shiny Happy Gulag in Action (And it can happen here.)

Yesterday I mentioned the show trials up in Canada. Here and here is an example of the Shiny Happy Gulag in action. As punishment for a 2002 letter to the editor opposing gay rights agendas, Stephen Boission was ordered by the Alberta Human Rights Commission pretty much to be silent for life about gays, to pay thousands of loonies of fines, and to apologize. Thankfully, he refuses to apologize and won’t pay the fines unless necessary for appeal. I hope more people tell Canada’s Human Rights Commissions what to do with themselves.

Don’t think this kind of suppression of free speech can’t happen in America. Those liberals who perpetually push for us to become as screwed up as the rest of the world would love to gag us mean hateful homophobic bigoted right-wingers conservatives.

A Big Reason to Leave Apostate Denominations

You might be able to personally stand firm in your faith in an apostate denomination such as the Episcopal Church or the Anglican Church of Canada. Maybe your parish can stand firm for a time, although I think that time is growing shorter by the day.

But what about your children? What effect will it have on them if they are liable to be taught stuff like this?

We believe in Jesus of Nazareth, who is our brother, who wants not to be idolized but to be followed.

We believe that we dwell in the presence of the Holy Spirit; without her we are nothing; filled with her we are able to become creative, lively, and free.

Pray tell, how is it possible to “idolize” the only begotten Son of God?

Anyway, if you think you can keep your apostate denomination from teaching tripe like this to your kids . . . maybe you ought to think again. I’m not saying it can’t be done. But I do have my doubts about it. And why should you fight your church in the religious education of your family?

Another Liberal Idiot Hiltz vs. Venables

Once again a liberal Primate is picking a fight with the Primate of the Southern Cone, Gregory Venables. This time it’s the Most Reverend Fred Hiltz of the Anglican Church of Canada. He’s written ++Venables objecting to his visit to churches who have left the ACC and joined the Province of the Southern Cone. And he’s released the letter publicly, of course.

He attacks ++Venables for being divisive, and in so doing breathtakingly overlooks that the ACC “bishop” of New Westminster has been a focus of division and has driven out the churches ++Venables is taking in and will visit.

Again, this is very similar to the letter from the TEC toadies bishops of Brazil. These liberals are like abusive parents that drive children out of the house then complain that a good family takes them in.

Ah, but --Hiltz says there’s no spiritual abuse in the Anglican Church of Canada. Nope, none at all. (Warning: I advise not drinking your coffee in front of your computer while reading the following.)

The Bishops believe that we have made adequate and appropriate provision for the pastoral care and Episcopal support of all members of the Anglican Church of Canada, including those who find themselves in conscientious disagreement with the view of their Bishop and Synod over matters of human sexuality.

Yes, I did have a good laugh this morning when I read that one.

Anyway, no formal reply from ++Gregory is out yet. But he has pointed out the obvious, that these Canadian churches aren’t part of the Anglican Church of Canada anymore. And that therefore he won’t call off the trip.

Nor should he.

The Pseudo-bishop of New Westminster, Michael Ingham, has sent a letter to Dr. J. I. Packer threatening him with suspension from ministry. This after the church of which Dr. Packer is a member, St. John’s Shaughnessy, which happens to be the largest Anglican church in Canada, voted 475 to 11 to leave apostasy the Anglican Church of Canada.

This boggles the mind. My readers are well aware of the giant Dr. Packer is among teachers and theologians. I know I’ve been very much influenced by two of his works, Knowing God and Keep in Step with the Spirit. It’s hard to find a good analogy to describe a heretical gnat like –Ingham threatening a man like Dr. Packer in any way. (Perhaps my readers would like to give it a try?)

As BabyBlue puts it (referring to Dr. Packer’s oversight of the English Standard Version): “He's edited The Bible, for goodness sake. Has Ingham lost his mind?”

I suspect he has. He certainly seems to have lost the part of his brain in charge of shame.

Not-so-by-the-way, there is something seriously wrong with a communion in which a great man like Dr. Packer is threatened while a wolf like Ingham remains a member in good standing.

Shiny Happy Gulag Targets Roman Catholics

Catholic Insight, a Canadian magazine known for its fidelity to Church teachings, has been targeted by the Canadian Human Rights Commission for publishing articles deemed offensive to homosexuals.

The complaint against Father de Valk is just one of several complaints against Christians that Canada's human rights commissions have investigated in recent years. Despite assurance from politicians that Canadian faith communities would not be affected when the government legalized same-sex marriage, the number of complaints against Christians have only increased since 2005, say several concerned Christians.

And I bet some of you thought I was over the top in calling Canada the Shiny Happy Gulag.

This week the largest Anglican parish in Canada, St. John’s Shaughnessy, voted by an overwhelming margin to leave the Anglican Church of Canada and the apostate Diocese of New Westminster.

One can be sure that pseudo-bishop Ingham will keep his promises to go after them like the wolf that he is.

ABC Supports Gulag UK

Ruining the Anglican Communion isn’t enough for Rowan Williams. Now Our Gracious Lord of Canterbury is assisting the Left in their push to turn Britain into Gulag UK with his support of laws against free speech.

It saddens me to see the UK becoming a place where it’s safer to be a criminal than a man with a backbone and right-minded opinions. I hope there are enough English left who haven’t lost their backbones to devolution to stand up and stop this madness. But I’m not terribly confident about that.

With Canada already being the Shiny Happy Gulag, the places in the world where free speech is protected are getting fewer and fewer.

The Shiny Happy Gulag gets put in its place.

Some have well dubbed Canada “the Shiny Happy Gulag” because of its attacks on basic freedoms such as speech and religion. Well, the SHG may have met its match in Ezra Levant, who isn’t taking any crap from the concentration camp guards bureaucrats.

Levant has been hauled before the so-called Alberta Human Rights Commission for publishing those cartoons of Mohammed that Islamic thugs used as an excuse to kill non-Muslims. And he is getting in the face of those who would punish him for exercising his right to free speech.

His opening statement may be found here. I particularly like this line:

Now the commission, which is funded by a secular government, from the pockets of taxpayers of all backgrounds, is taking it upon itself to be an enforcer of the views of radical Islam. So much for the separation of mosque and state.

It’s high time real men and strong women stand up to those who would take away our basic freedoms in the West and let them know that they can take their gulags and shove it!

I pray we see more of this. And with liberals and leftists overreaching on both sides of the Atlantic, maybe we will. God help us if we don’t.
